Her personality had an essence of braveness and boldness. In her childhood, she learned the art of swordsmanship so that she could protect herself in any war type of condition. Her name is changed to Lakshmi Bai after the marriage, and little did she know her life too. Manikarnika is married to Gangadhar Rao Niwalkar, the Maharaja of Jhansi. Her father was a peer in the court of Peshwa Bajirao II and Nana Saheb.

The story begins with the childhood of Manu. This drama unfolds the struggle of Lakshmi Bai or Manikarnika (as she is popularly known as) with the British Army to stop them from capturing Jhansi. After marrying the King of Jhansi, Gangadhar Tilak, she became the Queen. It is a story of the Queen of Jhansi Maharani Lakshmi Bai, and how she stood by the people. It is a historical Hindi drama first aired on Zee TV (2009 to 2011), set during the British Rule in India. The story continues from here on and ends at the historic battle of Jhansi where she lost her life. Later, the Maharaja is killed by the British and now elder as the Queen of Jhansi, she plans a war against the English rule. She is then married to the Maharaja of Jhansi at a very young age but, still continues to act as Kranti Guru.

Initially, she takes the name and face of Kranti Guru and fights against the British while being undercover. From an early life, Laxmi Bai despised the British rule in India and wanted to throw them out of the country. The story begins showing Laxmi Bai at the age of 14 living with her father and learning tactics of war and weaponry by Tatya Tope. From 8 June 2010, the story moved a few years ahead and the role of an elder Laxmi Bai was taken by Kratika Sengar. The show ran in two parts, the first one following the early life of Laxmi Bai where her character was played by Ulka Gupta. The show aired on Zee TV and first premiered on 18 August 2009, running until 19 June 2011. It takes the viewers through the life of the great queen, from her early days as a child to her demise against the British rule in the historic battle of Jhansi. Jhansi Ki rani is a historical drama based on the life of Rani Laxmi Bai, the queen of Jhansi.
